Learning to be a mom isn’t an
easy thing and there are many common mistakes almost every new mom makes that
you should be aware of and that you should avoid making. In fact, mistakes are
not so bad since they help us to become better, but sometimes it’s best to
avoid them. If you are a new mom, take a look at the list of the biggest
mistakes new moms makes.
1. Try to recover too fast
One of the biggest mistakes
many new moms make is trying to recover from childbirth fast. My sister made
this mistake, my close friend made this mistake and, unfortunately, I made this
common mistake too. The thing is that a new mom is highly anxious to get back
on her feet and take over her duties. If you a new mother, make sure you give
your body enough time to recover.
2. Cut their baby’s nails when
they’re awake
When I had my first baby, this
was another mistake I made without actually realizing that it’s a mistake. I
didn’t know that it’s easier to cut my baby’s nails while she was sleeping. If
you are a mother, you know how it’s difficult to cut the baby’s nails and you
often end up chasing those small waving hands around several times.
3. Underestimate themselves
Sadly, often new mothers
underestimate themselves. While it’s difficult to learn to care for a baby, you
should remember that nobody can do it better than a caring mom. Don’t think
that you are a bad mother if you do something wrong. You are a great mom who
loves her child and care for them. Your baby needs your confidence as well as
your husband.
4. Leave dad out
I did this mistake when I had
my first baby, but when my husband said that I left him out of the equation I
realized that he’s actually a parent too. I just got into a new mom mode and I
forgot to include him in baby bonding and care. This is one of those accidental
mistakes many mothers make. Luckily, it’s easy to fix. Just begin inviting your
husband to get involved with your baby as often as possible.
5. Let baby get used to one pacifier
A new mother should let her
baby get used to one pacifier. Try switching them out each week so that your
baby doesn’t take only one kind of pacifier. If your baby gets attached to only
one certain pacifier, it will be difficult to find a replacement and your
little one will reject any other pacifier. This is one of the lessons I learned
from experience and I recommend you to avoid making this mistake at all costs.
6. They don’t ask questions
Often new mothers don’t ask
questions, though they have many of them. They think their questions are a
little stupid, but in fact there is no such thing as a stupid question. That is
what your baby’s pediatrician and your doctor are for. Ask questions and they
will certainly help you with all of the newborn and recovery questions.
7. They are afraid to seek help
If you’re planning to
breastfeed, you might encounter some small issues at some point. Many moms do
and you shouldn’t be ashamed of it too. You might feel like breastfeeding
should come naturally and you might be embarrassed if something goes wrong. Not
all moms breastfeed easily from the beginning and if you need a help in this
area, don’t be afraid to ask for it.
While there’s no perfect
mother, you should do your best to become a good mother. Sure, these are only a
few mistakes new moms usually do and there are many more mistakes you should
avoid making. When you were a new mom, what mistakes did you make?
